Jepara Furniture Export Value Increases 7.29 Percent

The export value of Jepara furniture in 2018 increased by 7.29 percent from the previous year. However, the number of exporters decreased by three percent. This is due to the increasingly sluggish furniture export market. Although furniture remains the mainstay of Jepara's export commodity.

Exports of furniture products until the end of last year were valued at USD 179 million. Whereas the previous year the export value was USD 166.8 million. Due to the increasingly sluggish export market, exporters, which in 2017 reached 398 exporters, declined to 386 exporters in 2018. Even so the rising export value was also followed by the increase in the number of export destination countries. Originally in 2017 the export destination countries reached 111 countries. In 2018 it rose to 114 countries.

"Indeed, the export value has increased but in general the conditions in the field have been sluggish in the export market. So the exporters are decreasing, "said Head of Foreign Trade at the Office of Industry and Trade Edi Widodo.

As a result, entrepreneurs further strengthen the domestic market. This is in line with the weakening purchasing power of importing countries. Some European countries experience a decline in export value. Only the United States experienced an increase in export value from Jepara. "Entrepreneurs depend on the economic conditions of the importing country," he said.

However, from various Jepara export commodities, furniture is still the largest contributor to the value of exports. Followed by garment and footwear products with an export value of USD 150.3 million. Then the value of processed wood exports is USD 8.1 million.

He said he was trying to improve promotion through an international furniture furniture exhibition. The sadness was conveyed by the Chairperson of the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI) Jepara, Maskur Zaenuri. Currently the purchasing power of furniture importers tends to decline. The stretch of export business weakened somewhat. Even the skyrocketing exchange rate of the United States Dollar (USD) against the rupiah some time ago, did not have a significant impact on the world of furniture and carving crafts in Jepara.

In response to the weakening of purchasing power, it intensively included international furniture exhibition entrepreneurs. One of them welcomed the implementation of the Indonesia International Furniture Expo 2019, which will be held from March 11-14 2019, at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo), Kemayoran Jakarta
