Spirit of Jepara Carved Furniture, Unisnu Jepara Product Design Study Program Holds DESPROTION

JEPARA – The audience and coordination for the "DESPROTION" (Product Design Exhibition) exhibition by Unisnu Jepara Product Design students on Monday (July 7, 2025) was welcomed by the Deputy Regent of Jepara, Muhammad Ibnu Hajar, along with officials from the Regional Secretariat, the Department of Tourism and Culture (Disparbud), the Department of Education, Youth and Sports (Disdikpora), the Department of Communication and Informatics (Diskominfo), and the Department of Cooperatives and MSMEs.


The Product Design Exhibition itself is an annual event held as a practical learning platform, showcasing students' design work and prototypes to the public.

The 2025 Furniture & Craft Exhibition will be held from July 19-21, 2025, in the Kartini Museum Hall. The theme is "Future Design Innovation," which refers to sustainable future innovations in response to the current state of Jepara carved furniture.

Unisnu Jepara Product Design is a tangible academic contribution to the furniture industry, promoting the development of furniture product innovation and the preservation of Jepara Carving Art. Because Product Design is the new face of ATIKA or STTD NU.

Meanwhile, Gus Hajar (the deputy regent's nickname) welcomed and responded positively to this exhibition, stating that it is crucial for the future of the Jepara furniture industry, in line with its mission to revive the image and glory of Jepara carved furniture.

"This event is crucial for the future of our industry. The government is ready to facilitate and encourage collaboration between universities and industry players. This is also in line with our mission to revive the current glory of Jepara carved furniture," said Gus Hajar.

The Jepara Regency Government also hopes that this event will attract mutual attention, especially from Unisnu Jepara and the furniture industry, to strengthen collaboration and synergy in increasing interest and the quality of education in the Product Design study program for the advancement of Jepara carved furniture.

"We hope this event can be a momentum to strengthen collaboration between Unisnu Jepara and the furniture industry. This synergy is crucial for increasing interest and the quality of education in the Product Design study program, while simultaneously encouraging the future advancement of Jepara carved furniture," he added.

The event's supervising lecturer, Drajad Wibowo, expressed his readiness to pursue any form of collaboration with industry. He lamented the current decline in interest in Product Design, stemming from various factors.

"We held an event downtown with excellent collaboration in 2017-2018. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, interest in the Product Design study program has continued to decline, and activities have become less active," he concluded. (KA)
