Journey of Mrs. Mutmainah's Furniture Business

The furniture business is a fairly common business among rural communities. This type of business typically focuses on the manufacture and sale of various types of furniture, such as chairs, tables, cabinets, shelves, and so on.

Although this business requires significant capital, it still attracts many entrepreneurs due to its commensurate profits and its large market share. This is the case for Mrs. Mutmainah, who has been involved in this furniture business since 2012 with her husband.

Her father's tenacity in making furniture has led to the rapid growth of the business she and Mrs. Mutmainah built.

From this business, she now has three employees who help her grow the business, allowing her to build the house she currently lives in.

A Promising Furniture Business Turnover

After more than 10 years in business, obstacles are inevitable. During the pandemic, furniture production stopped, and sales continued with whatever materials were available. Unsurprisingly, my mother and father only made simple furniture according to customer needs.

However, production has now been revived thanks to capital assistance from a lending company. My mother used this capital to purchase wood for the materials or raw materials used in furniture making. Previously, this often posed a challenge due to material shortages in furniture production.

"Thank God, since the pandemic ended and children and students returned to school, my furniture business has become busy again. The loan funds have been very helpful in purchasing raw materials such as teak, mahogany, glue, saws, and other supplies. Because buyers usually pay upon completion, my mother often lacked capital."

Unexpectedly, this furniture business is quite promising, with a turnover of millions each month. For example, recently, a school in her village ordered 100 chairs and 50 tables for classroom use, which had to be completed in just 1.5 months.

For your information, a set of study tables containing two chairs and one table is priced at around Rp800,000, potentially generating tens of millions in revenue!

Mother's Hopes for the Furniture Business

Mother hopes that lending companies and funders will continue to support MSMEs like this, as well as other businesses in rural areas. Working together to realize a sovereign Indonesia, Mutmainah and her husband expressed their desire to continue learning about the latest furniture designs.

She wants to stay up-to-date on current market trends and utilize social media to find out what's trending and in high demand.
